DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
INTRODUCTION
The department of English is one of the best and dedicated disciplines, ceaselessly educating and energizing with equality content. The department offers a comprehensive curriculum to equip students with a sound knowledge of literature and to strength their language and communication skills. The department English started in the year June 2009 with 60 students and 5 staff members, Rev. Sr. ArokiaGracy, FSAG recommended being the Head of the department with 5 staff members. Mrs. Themnozhi was the Head of the Department in 2010 with 9 staff members in 2011 we had 2 section for the department. In 2012 PG English Course was introduced and Mr .Jesu Stephen was the Head of the Department and 14 staff members. In 2013 Rev.Sr. Antony Maria Jansi, FSAG became Head of the department, 10 new staff were appointed. The department has nearly 740 books in the department Library.
VISION
Imparting quality in teaching English and value-filled education to the rural girls of this area to make them think critically and creatively and also to train them in effective communication skills such as reading, writing and speaking.
MISSION
- To teach English language and make the rural girls speak, read and write correctly
- To develop effective communication skills in the field of their specialization
- To bring about historical and cultural awareness, instill intellectual growth among students
- To develop critical thinking and make them socially conscious of our democratic rightsand responsibilities
- To encourage young budding writers to enhance their creative abilities
BRIDGE COURSE
Bridge courses are a tool to help students succeed in their graduate level studies with the need to strengthen some core competencies as rote learning does not help. It is a means of preparing for the intellectual challenges of a university education. As the medium of instruction is English the learners ought to have a sound knowledge in English in order to perform well in the examinations. For few years in beginning in all the day order 6 hour practiced as Language Learning class.From 2017 Department Bridge Course also conducted to the students to know the core paper and the technique to read in the easy way. After attending this course, the students will gain confidence and courage by improving their vocabulary, be a good speaker by expressing their ideas in English. Every year the bridge course is being conducted for around 6 days to all the disciplines.
ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES
ELA MUSINGS the English Literary Association of English Department specializes in producing versatile and imaginative students with the strong interpretive and communication skills needed for today’s changing world. We have the clubs named Book Club and ELC.
(Davinci English Language Club) and the department publishes magazine yearly three issues named “Glespire”. Every year office bearers were changed under the guidance of HOD we carry out the events in the departments.

STUDENTS EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
Outreach plays a significant Role in our Graduate Education. Our goal is to develop strong and engaged relationship with members of the local community.This provides our students opportunities for hands-on learning and working experiences. Through this program students came to know about society problem, social discrimination, their life style, food and cultural habits. CULTURAL VISIT /LIBRARY VISIT
The main rationale of the visit is to arouse their artistic sense and to observe the culture, and heritage and movement of persons to cultural attractions away from their normal place of residence, with the intention to gather new information and experiences to satisfy their cultural needs. Students who value an environment where they can easily relax and be touched with the nature, cultural visit helps the students to be glad about their own and spread the cultural values to the changes around the generation.

Ms. N Bharathi, Asst.Professor of English has cleared her NET exam in 2018, registered her Ph.D in the same year and she was appointed as the SWAYAM mentor in the university as a representative for our college.
Ms. N Jayasudha Asst.Professor of English was appointed as the Social Media Champion.
Rev.Sr. A Antony Maria Jansi Head and Assistant Professor, Department of English has been selected as one of the members and Editors to frame syllabus for Part II English by Periyar University, Salem. She completed her doctoral in 2018.
Rev. Sr. A Antony Maria Jansi Head and Assistant Professor, Department of English has been awarded Puratchi Kaviznar and Manitha Neya Kavi Chemmal viruthu on 4 June 2016 by Tamil Nadu Tamil Ezhuthalargal Sangam and she is one of the poet in the “Ralley” of monthly magazine.
