English Department Reports

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

INTRODUCTION

The Department of English is one of the best and dedicated disciplines, ceaselessly educating and energizing with equality content. The Department offers a comprehensive curriculum to equip students with a sound knowledge of literature and to strengthen their language and communication skills. The Department English started in the year June 2009 with 60 students and 5 staff. Rev. Sr. Arokia Gracy, FSAG recommended being the Head of the Department with 5 Faculties. Mrs. Themnozhi was the Head of the Department in 2010 with 9 staff. we had 2 sections for the Department in 2011 .PG English Course was introduced In 2012 and Mr.Jesu Stephen was the Head of the Department with14 staff for the smooth running of the Department. Rev.Sr. Antony Maria Jansi, FSAG became Head of the department In 2013 and 10 new staff were appointed. 740 books added value to both staff and students to utilize the Department Library. Since 2019 Rev.Sr. An Chiristilla Priya Dharsini, FSAG is appointed as the  Head of the Department.

VISION

Imparting quality in teaching English and value-filled education to the rural girls of this area to make them think critically and creatively and also to train them with effective communication skills such as Listening, speaking reading and writing.

MISSION

  • To teach the English language and make the rural girls speak, read and write correctly
  • To develop effective communication skills in the field of their specialization
  • To enhance historical and cultural awareness, instill intellectual growth among students
  • To develop critical thinking and make them socially conscious of our democratic rights and responsibilities
  • To encourage young budding writers to enhance their creative abilities

BRIDGE COURSE

Bridge course is a tool to help students succeed in their graduate-level studies with the need to strengthen some core competencies. It is a means of preparing for the intellectual challenges of university education. English as the medium of instruction, the learners ought to have sound knowledge in English in order to perform well in the examinations. For few years, in the beginning, Day order 6,v-th hour is practiced as Language Learning class. Since 2017 Department Bridge Course is organized for the students to know the core paper and the technique to read in the simplest way. Therefore, the students gain confidence and courage to improve their vocabulary, be good speakers by expressing their ideas in English. Every year the bridge course is being conducted for around 6 days to all the Disciplines.

ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES

ELA MUSINGS the English Literary Association of the English Department specializes in producing versatile and imaginative students with the strong interpretive and communication skills needed for today’s changing world. It includes clubs named Book Club and ELC. (Davinci English Language Club) and the Department publishes magazine yearly three issues named “Gelspire”.Every year office bearers were changed under the guidance of HOD to carry out the events in the Department.

            The main rationale of the visit is to arouse their artistic sense and to observe the culture, and heritage, and cultural attractions away from their normal place of residence, with the intention to gather new information and experiences to satisfy their cultural needs. For students who value an environment where they can easily relax and be touched by nature, a cultural visit helps the students to spread the cultural values to their generation.

Ms. N Bharathi, Asst.Professor of English has cleared her NET exam in 2018, registered her Ph.D in the same year and she was appointed as the SWAYAM mentor in the university as a representative for our college.

Rev.Sr. A Antony Maria Jansi Head and Assistant Professor, Department of English has been selected as one of the members and Editors to frame the syllabus for Part II English by Periyar University, Salem. She completed her doctoral in 2018.

Rev. Sr. A Antony Maria Jansi Head and Assistant Professor, Department of English has been awarded PuratchiKaviznar and ManithaNeyaKaviChemmalvirudhu on 4 June 2016 by Tamil Nadu Tamil EzhuthalargalSangam and she is one of the poets in the “Ralley” of the monthly magazine.
