DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Biochemistry was established in the year 2016 – 2017, with the objective of imparting quality in the area of Biochemistry, the Bachelor of Biochemistry program is designed to equip the students with the knowledge of research and scientific skill in Biochemistry. A team has been appointed by the University for the Provisional Approval of the course. The team visited on 11.07.2016, comprising of Dr. G. Sudha, Asst. Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem as the Subject expert of the inspection committee. We had our Second Continuance of Provisional Affiliation on 06.09.2019. Dr. T. Periyasamy, Associate Professor, Department of Tamil, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Coordinator of the Team. Dr. G. Jayanthi, Professor, and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Government Arts and Science College for Women, Krishnagiri, is acted as the Subject Expert for the Continuance of Provisional Affiliation of the Course B. Sc. Biochemistry for the academic year 2017 – 2018. The third Continuance of Provisional Affiliation on 27.07.2018. Dr. T. Palvannan,Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Coordinator of the Team. Dr. V. Manjula, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Subject expert for Continuance of Provisional Affiliation of the Course B. Sc. Biochemistry for the academic year 2018 – 2019.
The smooth running of the Department is active with the appointed faculty such as Mrs.JSumathi, the Head of the Department & Staff with one Lab Assistant in 2016. In 2017, 1 staff with a lab assistant, and In 2018, 3 staff members with a Lab Assistant, Whereas, In 2019, 3 staff members along with the lab assistant.
ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES
As the course has been established during the academic year since 2018, an association activity for the Department has been decided to widen the knowledge level of the students. The aspects such as communication, various advocacy topics, overall growth, and expansion were focussed on. The Department had an Association with the name “Biochem”.Prof.JSumathi was the Organizing President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary were appointed for the various activities of the academic year.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT
The main aim of the Industrial Visit is to provide exposure to the students about the practical working environment and get a good opportunity to gain full awareness of industrial practices and adopt the newtechnologies.The purpose of industrial visit lets the students know things practically through interaction, working methods, and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from an academic point of view.

DEPARTMENT EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
Department of Biochemistry was established on June 18, 2016, with UG. The main objective of the course is to provide deep insight into Biochemistry and equip students with basic biological knowledge, and provide an in-depth exposure to the different research works, which will help the students to get placed in, varied disciplines of life sciences.
- To provide scientific research at the highest international standard, integrating cutting-edge multidisciplinary approaches to solving significant problems in biology and medicine.
