Introduction

The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 2011 with a UG Degree to render service to the growing, young and aspiring women community to achieve their goal. The Department was uplifted as the Post-Graduate Department in the year 2015. Qualified faculty members, excellent infrastructure with two modernized and well-equipped Chemistry laboratories provide ample opportunities for the students to become leading personalities. The focus of the Department is to develop students both in curricular and co-curricular activities. The Department has registered a good academic record and achieved university rank in the Periyar University Examination. In the year 2011, Ms.M.Vijayakumari,M.Sc.,M.Phil.,was appointed as the  Head of the Department with 1 Faculty and 1 Lab Assistant. From 2012 onwards Ms.M.Lallimathi, M.Sc., M.Phil., B.Ed., became the  Head of the Department with 2 staff members and a Lab Assistant.  Post Graduate courses were introduced in 2015 and 5 more new staff members were appointed. In 2016, Ms.M.Lallimathi, M.Sc., M.Phil., B.Ed.,SET, Head of the Department with 10 staff members and 1 lab assistant were appointed. In the year,2018 Ms.C.Anjali, M.Sc., M.Phil., B.Ed., was appointed as the Head of the Department with 9 staff members and 1 Lab Assistant.5 staff members newly appointed as assistant professors in the  department in 2019. And 4 staff members newly appointed as assistant professors in the year 2020.

Vision

Producing development-oriented women through Chemistry education.

Mission

  • Imparting life-oriented knowledge in Chemistry
  • Instilling research orientation among the women graduates
  • Equipping with skills through hands-on experience in lab programs.

 Association Activities

Every year the Department forms the Association Committee with a staff member as an organizing president, and students as secretaries, joint secretaries, and treasurer to carry out the association activities. This helps the students to develop their leadership qualities.
