DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
INTRODUCTION
The department of Biochemistry was established in the year 2016 – 2017, with the objective of imparting quality in the area of Biochemistry, the Bachelor of Biochemistry programme is designed to equip the student with the knowledge of research and scientific skill in Biochemistry. A team has been appointed by the University for the Provisional Approval of the course. The team visited on 11.07.2016, comprising of Dr. G. Sudha, Asst. Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem as the Subject expert of the inspection committee. We had our Second Continuance of Provisional Affiliation on 06.09.2019. Dr. T. Periyasamy, Associate Professor, Department of Tamil, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Coordinator of the Team. Dr. G. Jayanthi, Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Government Arts and Science College for Women, Krishnagiri, is acted as the Subject expert for Continuance of Provisional Affiliation of the Course B. Sc. Biochemistry for the academic year 2017 – 2018. The third Continuance of Provisional Affiliation on 27.07.2018. Dr. T. Palvannan,Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Coordinator of the Team. Dr. V. Manjula, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Periyar University, Salem, is acted as the Subject expert for Continuance of Provisional Affiliation of the Course B. Sc. Biochemistry for the academic year 2018 – 2019.
Mrs.J Sumathi, was the Head of the Department & Staff with one lab assistant in 2016. In 2017 1 staff member with one lab assistant, In 2018 4 staff members with one lab assistant, In 2019 also 4 staff members with one lab assistant. In 2020 3 staff members with one lab assistant, In 2021 also 3 Staff Members with one lab assistant.
ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES
As the course has been established during this academic year, an association for the department has been decided to start for extending the knowledge level of the students. The communication position and various advocacy topics, overall growth and expansion. The department we have an association named “Biochem”.Prof.J Sumathi, is the Organizing President, Secretary and Joint Secretary among the students was appointed.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Main aim industrial visit is to provide an exposure to students about practical working environment. They also provide students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices. Through industrial visit students get awareness about new technologies.
The purpose of industrial visit it lets student to know things practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from academic point of view. Main aim industrial visit is to provide an exposure to students about practical working environment.

DEPARTMENT EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
Department of Biochemistry was established in June 18, 2016, with UG. The main objective of the course is to provide deep insight in biochemistry and equip students with basic biological knowledge, and also to provide an in-depth exposure to the different research works, which will help the students to get placed in, varied disciplines of life sciences.
- To provide scientific research at the highest international standard, integrating cutting-edge multidisciplinary approaches to solving significant problems in biology and medicine.
- Motivate students to develop as internationally competitive professionals with excellent leadership, communication with teamwork skills.
